Nant Mithil examination- what happens next

Nant Mithil examination- what happens next

This is what CPRW and RE-Think  understand from:

Developments of national significance (DNS): procedural guidance (28 May 2025)

COUNTING FROM THE END OF THE REPRESENTATION PERIOD (MIDNIGHT 16.2.26)

Soon after 16.2.26,  Bute should have reviewed all the Consultee and public application responses and they can tell the Inspector if they want time, and how much,  to respond to any points which do not require any changes in the Application.

By the end of 10 Working days (we estimate by midnight 3.3.26): If Bute does want to make changes in the Application, they can make a “variation” to the Application but changes must be minor and not substantial. The Inspector has 5 working days to decide whether to accept a properly submitted variation. If it is accepted, the revised documents must be received within 28 days and PEDW will chose whether to suspend the examination to allow for receipt, publication and consultation on the new documents.

Also by the end of 10 Working days: The Inspector will announce the chosen examination procedure. The choice is Written Representations requested by the Inspector, Hearing, or more formal Inquiry, or a combination of these.

A Hearing must be held within 10 weeks (we estimate by 28.4.26)

An Inquiry must be held within 13 weeks (we estimate by 19.5.26)

THEN, COUNTING FROM THE ACCEPTANCE OF THE APPLICATION ON 18.11.25:

PEDW submit their report to the Welsh Ministers within 24 weeks (we estimate by 5.5.26)

The Welsh Ministers decide within 36 weeks  (we estimate by 28.8.26)

                                                *      *      *       *      *

These deadlines could change because, at any time, the Inspector can suspend the examination to fit Inspector timetables or to request more information and make time for preparation, submission and further consultation. All this pushes the deadlines further into the future.

In wind farm examinations so far, our experience is that the Inspector has required further information and this has led to a second round of consultation, extending the deadlines set out in the Guidance.

We can’t count on this happening for Nant Mithil.
